No need to get kidnapped to start thinking about the meaning we give to our life
Throughout the years I have realized that most of the time we don’t ask ourselves the most essential question ‘Why do I get out of bed every morning?’ Or alternatively ‘Why do I do what I do?’ or ‘Why do I live?’
It’s often only until Life confronts us with ourselves, gently or roughly, through defeat, failure, loss, (mental or physical) illness, an accident, total job disengagement, … that we start thinking about the meaning we give to our Life. Or rather the way how we lost that meaning somewhere on our journey.
As for myself, my real questioning why I lived – in my case it was truly having escaped death ! – and what kind of Life I wanted to have, started in Bogota, Colombia, in January 1994 after a violent kidnapping by the FARC. I got shot with several bullets. I was heavily injured. I lost some of my important physical capacities. I was close to dying.
The crucial moments of recovery and the many months of physical revalidation helped me to become clear about one essential thing: I was going to live Life to the fullest and ‘something amazing’ with and for Life. I had no clear idea yet what that would look like, but the fire got switched on in my heart and mind.
The years after the kidnapping, enriched by many moments of deep self-reflection, conscious self-confrontation and profound contemplation gradually took shape into dedicating my Life to inspiring others and into what became my noble purpose: inspiring high impact leaders around the globe to create beauty, harmony and joy in order to lead the progress and well-being of Humankind, Society and the World.
As an engaged noble purpose entrepreneur, solutionist, investor and author – some call me ‘The Man of Noble Purpose’ – my focus is to bring, in a multitude of ways, noble purpose to Humankind, to society and into the business world.
Being the source of several enterprises, organizations, initiatives and projects, I use these as a pragmatic way to spread the power of inspiration and noble purpose.

The basic needs of providing people with the right amount (and good quality) of food, the necessary education to become independent, a roof above the head (that is more than a piece of cardboard), necessary levels of health, and true security and safety should be the standard for everyone on this planet.
